Principal's Message

Greetings Westwood Heights Elementary Parents, Community Members, and all Invested Stakeholders,

Welcome back to what we anticipate will be another stellar year of teaching and learning with our scholars! I am especially proud to share with our school community that as a result of our collective hard work and commitment to closing the achievement gaps, Westwood Heights Elementary has achieved a school grade of an “A” going into the 2025-2026 school year!  Most certainly, the goal this year is to soar to higher levels of achievement by “raising the bar” ensuring “no child gets left behind” in our pursuit of academic excellence. At our initial School Improvement Community Forum (SAC/SAF), we will share a recalibrated strategic plan, which outlines “WHE Blueprint” for continued upward academic trajectory.

Core Values & Theme, Mantra, Motto

At Westwood Heights Elementary, we believe all students can achieve at their highest potential and we are never satisfied until they do. Therefore, we will continue to cultivate an inclusive school atmosphere where the diverse socio-emotional and academic learning needs of our scholars are met. The WHE Team is committed to systematically closing the existing achievement gaps year after year by working collaboratively to foster a “student and staff centered” learning environment where we nurture supportive relationships, hold our scholars and each other to high expectations, and ensure the effective implementation of WHE embedded best practices.

2025-2026 Theme: “A” School, Going for Gold! Mantra: Raising the Bar. Motto: Excellence is the Standard.  We are excited about this year’s theme: It will ignite enthusiasm and renewed commitment, setting the tone for the optimistism we will bring into the new school year, ensuring student achievement soars to higher heights!

Uniform Policy, Arrival/Dismissal Procedures

Westwood Heights is a mandatory uniform school. Therefore, all students are expected to come to school dressed in the approved uniform colors each day of the week. Uniform tops: red, dark blue, and white polo shirts. Unform bottoms: Blue and Khaki, closed toe shoes.

School Hours, Lunch, and Aftercare

WHE School hours remain 8:15am – 2:15pm. Please ensure students do not arrive at school before 7:30am, there will be no adult supervision until 7:30am. Effective at the start of the 2025-2026 School Year meal applications will be utilized to identify a student's Meal Eligibility. In the effort to assist families with the Meal Benefit Program transition, the Food and Nutrition Services Department will continue to feed all students at no cost for the first thirty (30) days of school, until September 22, 2025. As of September 23, 2025, all students will be responsible for paying for meals if not Approved by Direct Certification Categorically or by an Approved Meal Benefit Application.

Breakfast begins at 7:30am – 8:00am. Instruction starts promptly at 8:15am and regular dismissal is 2:15pm. Early release dismissal is 12:15pm.  Students who arrive late for school, after 8:15am must report to the front office with an adult for a late pass and will be escorted to class by a support staff. Parents please be informed that due to transitional preparation for regular dismissal, the latest you can pick up a student for early dismissal is 1:30pm. Please inform the office or your child’s teacher in advance if there is a change in how your child will be getting home on a particular day. Please complete the “How Home” form in your child’s first day packet and return it to your child’s teacher. All parents and visitors to the school campus must be checked in at the front office. An identification badge is required for all students, staff, and district employees to gain access to the building each day.
